Dear Parishioners: As we enter a new calendar year in September, I want to welcome again all of you to our Saints of Views Greek School. If you don’t know already, it is open to all children ages 3-18 each and every Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We have an adult class that meets one evening a week, although we start our registration together with the kids on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 10:00 AM. I want to encourage all of our parishioners to participate in some way in Greek School whether it is sending your children, grandchildren, godchildren, or yourself for a lesson or a whole year of lessons. I welcome everyone to volunteer in our classrooms or to just come visit. Historically it was the Orthodox Church that preserved the Greek way of life, including the language, customs and culture during the Turkish 400 years of occupation. The church continued to teach children not only the ways of our faith but also the ways of the heritage and most importantly the language as it was the original language of the liturgy. It was through the hard work of the priests and monks in teaching the Greek language through those 400 years that the liturgy has been preserved along with the Greek language. The teaching of the Greek language gives us an ability to understand the liturgy in the unique and intense perspective. It also allows us to communicate with relatives, travel, practice many of the sciences and most importantly just develop our brains and personalities. Many studies have been done in recent years that prove that the learning of another language for a child rapidly increases the connections in their brain for other subjects. The learning of a language in adults and the elderly helps preserve our mental acuity. So, with all of that said, why not come to Greek School and bring somebody with you. The more the merrier and we truly have a good time. I look forward to seeing you on our opening day of Greek School on September 19, at 10:00AM. Your Greek School Principal, Roberta Williams
